Message from the CSE Interim Department Chair

Welcome to the CSE and SECS community at Oakland! I am pleased to serve as the CSE interim department chair this fall, following the departure of Dr. Kessentini. While we will miss Marouane, his influence will continue to be seen in the department as we continue the collaborative work that he started during his time as department chair in CSE, expanding academic program offerings and increasing our faculty research profile.

We welcome, and hereby express our full support for our new faculty Dr. Mohammad Wardat, whose research lies in Software Engineering for Deep Learning, in particular, the intersection of Fault Localization, Program Analysis, and Machine Learning. We look forward to Dr. Wardat’s contributions to our teaching and research as he starts his academic career in SECS. Finally, Dr. Mehdi Bagherzadeh has been promoted to Associate Professor at CSE department, and will also serve as the Academic Programs Coordinator this year. Congratulations to all of our CSE community, past and present, on their accomplishments and career advancements!

Our department has strong momentum coming into fall, with two new academic programs in Artificial Intelligence. Data Science, and Software Engineering programs are expected to launch in the near future, with both undergraduate and graduate programs being finalized. We also have new 4+1 programs for our many, highly motivated students seeking to graduate from OU with dual degrees.

Our research profile will continue to grow, with grant proposals in full swing and discussions towards new industry partnerships in the works. Watch our website for announcements on new research efforts and collaborations.

I want to thank the entire department for the support given to me, as I assume a more supportive role to them! I enjoy working with all of you and look forward to a great academic year!
